I am an African Child
Have you ever heard of discrimination? Racism? Africans? In this blog, we will talk more of these things. How people in Africa lived and survived a kind of chaotic world starting from their ancestors up until in today's generation. This blog will make you realize the importance of being proud of yourself and your nationality despite all the judgments and imperfections. As you go along this lesson, you'll appreciate the value of words as a positive and powerful tool to inspire, reconnect and unite a nation.
For you to have more ideas about the lesson, here are some documentaries that will showcase the life in Africa. After watching the videos, it will be easier for you to understand the poem that you are going to read later.

In the poem that you have read, it has something to do with how Africans lived. Based on your own understanding, make a two paragraph reaction paper. What were your general impressions? What are the differences between just reading it from performing it orally? As I've said earlier, words can be used as a powerful tool in a positive way and that is to inspire others. So, do not forget to include some advice that can help the people who have experienced the same situation. Type your answers on the comment section and make sure that the comments will surely be in a sensible way.
For the last activity, make an inspirational 3-5 minute documentary that shows situations close to the main message of the poem. The documentaries will be shown in the class next meeting and we'll proceed to our main discussion.
You're done! I hope that this blog helped you to understand or to accept that differences among nations should not be seen as hindrances to be united, also, the imperfection of oneself maybe something that can make an individual unique.

I am an African Child is a great poem that serves as an eye opener to everyone that Africans isn’t just about having chocolate colored skin but potential and brilliant people deserving of everything except discrimination. Everyone deserves a space in this world wherein he/she can reveal who they really are and do what can make them happy. Discriminating other people won’t make you go a step higher to them.
ReplyDeleteThe poem “I Am An African Child” by Eku McGred is simply a great poem that everyone needs to see especially now that discrimination or racism is very evident nowadays. Africans are not just people who are dark skinned but rather they’re someone like us. They’re brilliant, wonderful and talented people. Everyone in this world is just the same no matter what colour or nationality we have. We all deserve to be happy and be free to be ourselves. We have the right to receive the right amount of respect in this world because at the end of the day, we are all the same, we are all beautiful and wonderful human beings that God created.

DeleteThis poem and the activities asked to be done is a good way to teach everyone about fairness and equality of people. We should treat not just the Africans, but all the other races, the way we want to be treated. Respect begets respect. And whatever you do to other people, comes right back to you. Africans may be different because of their culture and their appearance but hey, ever thought that we differ from them too? So, be careful on how to deal with people. After all, we are made by God, equal and special in His own way.
ReplyDeleteI am an African Child, is a great poem that speaks about equality.. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and having a dark complexion does not make anyone less of a person.. No one should be deprived of a good future nust because of their appearance. And often times we think that pitying helps, but it doesnt. Instead, we should spread the word and help give them a better future.
